Canine obesity. It's sad to say that out of 77.5 million dogs in the United States 35 million are overweight, while almost 7 million are clinically obese. There really, truly, is no excuse for these statistics to be so astronomical. We, as owners, are purchasing their food and feeding them.

Processed fats and carbohydrates in commercial dog food can cause the deterioration of the digestive systems of our dogs. These elements get caught up in the villi, tiny finger-like projections that line the inner wall of the small intestine, and damage them along with the lining of the intestines. These villi are responsible for transportation of nutrients, and aid in the absorption of nutrients. Proper digestion is key in the health of our dogs. If they do not have the proper enzymes and nutrients their bodies will fail.

In feeding a raw, biologically appropriate diet, the proper enzymes and nutrients come from the food they eat. Anytime food is processed it's nutrients are altered.  As humans, we know what is good for us and what is not. We also have the free will to do what we want for ourselves with the knowledge we have. We would all be a lot healthier if we had someone else dictating and preparing healthy, bio-appropriate meals for us, right? I mean it would be a bummer if we were allergic to bread yet everyday our personal "feeder" gave us no other choice but to eat bread 2-3 times a day.

An overweight dog can take on NUMEROUS health issues ranging from mild to fatal. Any extra weight they carry potentially shortens their life by 2 years! When feeding a raw diet weight management is a cinch because we are no longer fighting nature! It's the least we can do for them and they enjoy every second of it!
